President

George Marks is President of Mark IV Realty, Inc., a boutique real estate firm based in Chicago, Illinois. Mark IV Realty, Inc. is a small opportunistic entrepreneurial firm that prides itself on its creative solutions to real estate projects. Having been involved in all facets of the real estate industry, from brokerage, acquisitions, dispositions, development, rehab projects, management and financing for over 50 years, with over 200 different types of transactions, Marks bring a unique perspective to the business.

Marks started his career in the Chicago office of Grubb & Ellis, a national commercial real estate brokerage company. At Grubb & Ellis, Marks was responsible for, and assisted in, the site selections and Chicago market entry of several national and local retailers, including Office Depot, Weight Watchers and others. In addition, Marks handled the disposition of several excess properties throughout the Midwest on behalf of Walmart. For these efforts, Marks was the 1993 “Rookie of the Year” for Grubb & Ellis.

After leaving Grubb & Ellis, Marks joined Mid-America Real Estate, a leading retail real estate services firm. At Mid-America, Mars expanded his client base, handling representation and developing market penetration strategies for new and existing retailers, including Hollywood Video, Jamba Juice, Sprint, Golfsmith, Aldi and others. In addition, he was responsible for the leasing and repositioning of several Chicago area properties, including Marina City. Marks was also instrumental in attracting new tenants such as the House of Blues, Smith and Wollensky’s and Crunch Gym to this project and creating a new urban entertainment along the Chicago River.

Since joining Mark IV, Marks has continued to expand the company’s involvement in all facets of real estate. From the construction of a small strip center on Chicago’s South Side, to the development of the Hard Rock Hotel on Michigan Avenue, Marks has experience with a wide variety of real estate projects. Currently managing a portfolio of many property types, from shopping centers to industrial properties, hospitality, mixed-use commercial buildings and land, Marks hope to continue the company’s growth and to find new, creative real estate opportunities.

Marks is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and a licensed real estate broker. He has served on the City of Chicago’s Capital Improvement Advisory Committee and currently serves on the Parish Council of St. Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church.
